Our Guiding Principles
TRANSPARENCY: Ask us anything about our farm! We are open and honest about our practices, the lives of our animals, and how we calculate product pricing. We have a goal to create a welcoming farm that caters to visiting patrons, but we aren't there yet. There is a lot to do to revitalize the farm and we need some time to build. Please check back frequently to watch our progress.

GRASS-BASED: Pastured livestock and poultry are moved frequently for landscape healing and nutritional superiority. If you compare our cuts of meat and eggs to the industrial foods - even certified organic - you find in the supermarket, you will see and taste how much better our pasture-raised, family-managed, humanely-treated, and locally-produced products are compared to anything you will find in the store.

INDIVIDUALITY IN NATURE: Plants and animals should be provided a habitat that allows them to express their natural proclivities. We respect nature and incorporate natural tendencies and environmental preferences of our animals into how we raise them. We build relationships with each of our animals and truly strive to keep them content and living as close as possible to the way nature intended. Each type of animal gets maximum nutritional benefit from the land in a unique way. Poultry need sunlight, protein, and fresh air to produce quality meat and eggs. At our farm, they fulfill their nutrition requirements by eating grass, grain that we provide, and by scratching at the soil to forage for bugs. Pigs do best in a forest-edge environment, where they have access to a diverse mix of plant species and the summertime shade of trees. Cattle do best when they are able to access new pasture daily, leaving behind their manure and a percentage of trampled, uneaten grass that is eventually incorporated into the soil. Our cows are grass-fed and grass finished. Cows are grazing animals and that is why we keep them on pasture as much as possible and only feed grass; never grain.

COMMUNITY: We strive to provide quality food to our community and closer to your home. We seek interaction with local community through farmer's markets, town festivals, and any event that will welcome us to sell our products. As we develop our connection to the community, honesty and integrity with our customers are paramount to our ethos. In the spirit of this ethos, and in order to remain competitive in our prices, we don't pay for industrial-based certifications, such as "certified organic", but we do offer transparency about all our production methods and we prioritize support to community events and activities.

THE DOWN AND DIRTY: When you get down to the nitty gritty, we are really just soil builders and grass farmers for our priority customers - our animals! Land regeneration, revitalization, and restoration is central to our ability to feed our animals. As such, working with our animals to rebuild soil health is our first priority. Healthy soil creates healthy food.

GMO: While we would love to use non-GMO brands for all of our feed products, it is an unfortunate reality that, due to costs, feed for our pigs and chickens is not guaranteed to be certified non-GMO. We don't believe this has any impact on the quality of our product or the animals, as they are still truly pasture-raised and living happy lives. Our cows remain fully grass-fed and non-GMO.

NO FANCY EQUIPMENT: Modern farming is expensive and we have no room here for large and fancy tractors! We try to keep our costs down with simple equipment and manual labor. This means we are limited on our production speed. We are not going to sacrifice quality for speed and growth.
SPEED AND QUANTITIES: If we are out of a product at market, it is because it was really that good - and you should consider purchasing it earlier than everyone else next time! We are a small farm and we intend to stay that way. We are not in the business of taking on debt to increase productivity. Please understand that we will do our best to provide predictability to our products, but we can't always promise everything will be in stock for our retail customers. However, the products we do provide are so outstanding, you will want to order early and often!
